Thus, they are complying with the letter of our license, though not the spirit. CF: Against the companies? Not really. One user asked us about legal recourse. DD: Is there anything you can do to prevent future products doing the same? PH: Nope.

Anything we might implement to try to thwart such installations e. Any application can ship any version of Growl that they want to. Now, we have for years provided a way to ship Growl, but that method validates that the user wants to do this, and also should not prompt again.

DD: What have you done so far to help these unhappy unintentional users with their plight? PH: We provide detailed instructions on how to get Growl off your system and keep it off , and an explanation of how this happens in the first place, on our Website.

PH: That we hate this, too. We ask users to contact the developers of these applications to ask them not to do this.

The situation is horrible to be in. DD: Do you have any advice for people looking to develop similar framework software in the future? Write review. Write your thoughts in our old-fashioned comment. It has not been updated since Fromage-Head May 21 Except a slight blinking from my growl notifications everything seems to work OK with Yosemite. While it's good to have Apple make its own system, they unfortunately as always strip it down too much, forcing me to often switch it off because I can't filter the type of notifications I want, it's all or nothing or use Growl if I can.

Yet they're still charging for the app even though users can build it themselves from the open source. Big Johnson May 3 Since I upgraded to I hate notifications in the top right corner and no customization options, but I'll try it for a while and see if I can tolerate it. The uninstaller said "uninstallation successful. Jazzyguy Oct 31 I like this version and I am glad I bought it for Mavericks.

Old-guy Oct 11 Jazzyguy Sep 27 Growl is a useful application and very utilitarian. VRH Aug 1 It's so much more flexible than OS X's built-in notification system. I hope more and more developers continue to integrate Growl into their applications.

I have 2 Growl icons and 3 Hardware Growler icons in my iMac's dock. I checked and I have only one app of each installed. Anyone having the same problem? JaredRide Dec 11 I purchased via the mac app store and feel robbed. No notifications for incoming mail messages???? Please help Works fine except for inability to clear notifications for specific apps in the Growl Notification Rollup; only clearing all of them works and I wish there was a keyboard shortcut for doing that. Nontroppo Dec 5 Growl is still a valuable utility for managing notifications, even in the age of However, the official support for NC is actually worse than the previous non-official plugins because you cannot select on an application basis what goes to NC, and every notification is labelled as Growl no matter what app it originally came from.

Why can't growl treat NC as a "style", so we can choose on a per-app basis whether to use it and thus also have notifications named correctly.

This is why for me Growl is currently a 4-star utility. Jazzyguy Dec 4 I like this Notification System and am glad to vote it 5Stars. I wish I could give it more!

SawtoothRising Oct 1 I want to use bark dammit! Whateverrrr Sep 26 I like Growl but it seems they've removed the option they had in conjunction with Hardware Growler 1. I bet they didn't! Bad call Growl Project RTouris Sep 20 Let me start off by saying that I have been a HUGE growl fan since it's inception and believe me when I say it's been a long time ago Now; on to the newbies..

Back to I claimed that this is an improvement over 1. The subsequent releases introduced a myriad of problems even the buttons where hard to comprehend as to which way they swayed On to v. Hm, there must be something nasty going on here, I never recall these two occupying such hefty system resources, granted these are now 64bit processes and this by itself accounts for a bit of increased memory footprint.. Smitty Sep 20 When the option to "forward notifications to OS X" is on, any growl notification shows up under "growl" in notification center.

I would really prefer if each app showed up on its own. Perhaps this is a limitation of notification center. Macs-Pain Sep 20 So, installing Adobe CS5 installs Growl without any notice and without asking if I want this app at all.

And now I should pay for a program that comes with Adobe CS which isn't very cheap anyway. Timbuk2 Sep 20 After installing For instance I would like HardwareGrowler notifications to pop up in the lower left corner. I can configure Growl to do so, but they still only pop up in the top right corner. Am I doing something wrong or is this a known bug? Lnr1 Sep 20 Can you just fix the issue with it no launching at startup already This new version doesn't open at startup for me.

I saw several users complaining of the same issue in forums. I sent several mails to the developer but no answer Everything is so Tommy-Gun Jun 9 It is still a good addition to 3. Fishscale Jun 9 Version 1. I wish I would not have upgraded If you don't need the "new" features I'd skip this version. Snowlprd Jun 9 This is supposed to be an open-source project, but it doesn't look like the source for 1.

Unicorn Mar 8 Does not allow you to re-add applications listing at all after removing them. Uninstalling doesn't work.

Cleaning the app via app uninstaller does not fix it. This should not be a problem, but it is a terrible flaw entirely. Snowlprd Jan 27 Growl Fork is still rocking it. Don't need the extra features in 1. Thanks again, Mr. Alrescha Jan 17 The complaints are accurate. The latest version of Growl from the App Store can't stay running for more than 24 hours.
